Summary

After air, the next most vital thing for our survival is water. While at the moment we have enough water for our needs, a time is likely to come when our water supply runs out and we have to buy water at a price similar to fuel. This is a situation which already exists in some parts of the country, and ‘water wars’ are a common occurrence. The solution, which some people have implemented, is to save and store rainwater.

What steps can be taken to promote water conservation in India?

Water appears to be the most vital substance for our existence after air. Though we have enough water to fulfil our needs now, a time is not far when our water supply runs out and we have to buy water at a price similar to fuel. In some parts of India this situation which already exists. ‘Water wars’ are a common occurrence there. Some people hence have started to save and store rainwater as a solution to the problem.

First of all there should be a strict regulation on how to disposse off the industrial waste. So that no industrialist is allowed to put industrial waste into the ground which pollutes the underground water resources. Ther should be serious fines along with imprisonment sentences so that people think twice before they pollute our underground water reserves. Anil

I point out few facts in this regard for thinking and to act upon- 1. Wastage of water (about 70%) by RO (Reverse Osmosis)plants for drinking purpose. 2. Permitting Cold drink compaines to take huge quantity of underground water. 3. Villages in which drinking water is not available but cold drinks are. 4. Techanical solution: SUBSOILING by Subsoiler implement - This method must be tried for its impact. This method allows the water to infiltrate into the soil instantly as rain falls on the ground
