People with disabilities have the same zeal and appreciations for life as the rest of us do. They can, and want to, participate in all aspects of life along with the mainstream. But people with disabilities get shunned, doubted, mocked and insulted. Access to public places and buildings is restricted and often impossible. Doors are closed for schooling and employment. India does not appear to be mature enough and understanding enough to recognise people with disabilities for what they are – people.
Is the expectation of a normal life by differently-abled individuals asking for too much?
People with disabilities aim for the same normal life as the rest of us do. But, their will to participate in all aspects of life is often ignored, questioned and ridiculed. Access to public places and buildings is restricted and often impossible. Doors are closed for schooling and employment. India certainly doesn't seem to be mature enough to understand and recognise differently-abled individuals for what they are – people.
